Abstract
755,019. Jet propulsion plant. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. Sept. 9, 1954 [Sept. 9, 1953], No. 25019/53. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXXIII] An aircraft jet pipe having a directionally adjustable nozzle comprises a forward fixed part 11 and an adjustable rear part 9 connected by a joint which is in a plane at an angle to' a plane normal to the axis of the part 11. The forward part has an outer casing 12 spaced from an inner jet pipe 14 to which it is connected by tangential straps 26 which permit relative radial movement and a sliding joint 27 which permits relative axial movement. The rear part is similarly constructed with corresponding parts 13, 15, 28 and 29, and rotary gas-seals 19 and 24 are provided between the co-operating casing and jet pipe elements respectively. Part of the sealing structure for the casing carries a toothed ring 20 engaged by a pinion 21 driven by an electric motor 22, whereby the nozzle part 9 may be deflected from the position shown in which it is aligned with the forward part 11.
