Abstract

1357370 Jet propulsion thrust control ROLLS-ROYCE (1971) Ltd 24 Sept 1971 44564/71 Heading B7G A ducted fan gas turbine jet propulsion engine includes a cowl 16 having a closable aperture 26 therein for the radial flow of propulsive fluid, the upstream and downstream edges 30, 32 of the aperture having elongate slots 34, 36 each connected to a supply of pressurized fluid to discharge such fluid over the edges to entrain (by the Coanda effect) fluid passing through the aperture and cause it to flow in the direction of flow of said pressurized fluid. Supply to nozzles 34, 36 causes braking or thrust spoiling respectively. The aperture 26 may be opened by axially moving downstream cowl portion 24, Fig. 2, or by moving a cylindrical fairing (not shown) covering an aperture between two fixed cowl portions; blocker doors 28 are operated at the same time.
