629,958. Metal vapour lamps. PARK ROYAL SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS, Ltd., and DAVIES, R. Feb. 18, 1947, No. 4720. [Class 39 (i)] In a mercury discharge lamp 1 with a rare gas filling and heated electrodes, poisoning of said electrodes and damage to the internal fluorescent coating by free mercury during transit is avoided by locating the mercury 13 in a mushroom-shaped trap 12, thus allowing mercury vapour but not free mercury to reach the interior of the lamp bulb. The trap has its stem fused to a tube 10 which opens into a pinch of the bulb in the conventional manner of an exhaust tube, and is protected by a normal end cap 15.
