Abstract
629,956. Belt-tensioning devices. PERFECT TAPE COUPLER CO., Ltd., and CROWTHER, B. Jan. 8, 1947, No. 629. [Class 80 (i)] In belt gearing, particularly for power-driven sewing machines, comprising driving and driven pulleys d, b, and a countershaft pulley e, the frame g of the latter has an upstanding lug g<1> engaging one face of a lug h<1> depending from a plate h fixed to the underside of the machine bench i. An eccentric k mounted in the lug g<1> has a spindle k<1> which projects through a hole in the lug h' and has a clamping nut m. Upon release of the nut m rotation of the eccentric will adjust the tension of the belt f. The eccentric k is locked in position by a set-screw n. The spindle k' may have a conical portion so that tightening of the nut m also locks the parts. The frame g also has a lug g<2> carrying a screw j the end of which may act on a projection h<2> on the lug h' to adjust the tension of the lower belt c. The geometrical disposition of the lines p, r, passing through the centres of the parts b, e, k is such that this latter adjustment also tends to tighten the belt f.
