577,664. Milling screw threads. SAROSSY, A. May 8, 1944, No. 8675. [Class 83 (iii)] A screw-milling attachment for lathes comprises a horizontal base 10 for mounting on the slide rest provided with a vertical bracket 18 having a circular recess to receive a spigot 20 on an angularly adjustable plate 21. A slide 34 is vertically adjustable on a dovetailed jig on the plate 21 and carries bearings 45 for the cutter spindle 46 provided with a cutter 47 at one end and a double driving pulley 48 at the other end. Angular adjustment of the plate 21 is effected by opposing screws 26 on the bracket 18 engaging a spherically-ended projection 25 on the plate, the adjustment being indicated by graduations on the plate and being limited by screws 22 on the bracket passing through arcuate slots 23 in the plate. Adjustment of the slide 34 is effected by a screw 36 engaging a tapped hole in the plate 21, locking being effected by set screws 43, and is indicated by a graduated dial 44 on the screw. Twin belts 49 connect pulleys 48 to pulleys on a gear box 12 driven by an electric motor 11 slidably adjustable on the base 10 by a screw 15 and locked by set screws 17. A hole 13 in the base provides for securing the attachment to the slide rest, and a flywheel 52 is provided on the cutter spindle adjacent the pulleys 48.
