Abstract
576,450. Milling-machines. JENKINS, A. April 29, 1944, No. 8071. [Class 83 (iii)], In a milling-machine wherein the cutter is given a circular motion of any required radius, particularly for die-sinking, the cutter head 10 has a plate-like extension 11 provided with bearings' 19, 20 which receive crank-pins 22 rotated by hand in unison so as to give a coupling-rod motion to the head and cutter relatively to the work 38. The plate 11 is guided between vertical plates 12 on a compound slide 13, 15 adjustable on the machine frame by a hand-operated rack and pinion 18a and a hand-operated screw 17 respectively. The crank-pins 22 are radially adjustable on discs 23 carried by parallel shafts 24 mounted in bearings on the slide 13, one shaft being rotatable by a hand-operated worm and the shafts being connected by chain-andsprocket gearing 28 and also by a coupling-rod and cranks 30. Alternatively, the shafts 24 may be connected by spur, bevel or worm gearing. The cutter spindle is driven by a belt 36 from an electric motor 35 carried by a bracket 37 on the plate 11, and the crank-pins 22 each consist of a bolt screwed into a block 26, Fig. 6, radially adjustable in a groove,27 on the disc 23, a soft metal pad 21 allowing the bolt to be used for locking the adjustment when tightened.
