Abstract
629,063. Cores for dynamo-electric machines. CROMPTON PARKINSON, Ltd., and DUCKETT, W. Oct. 25, 1947, No. 28583. [Class 35] In a D.C. dynamo-electric machine having two or more salient poles mounted on the stator frame, each pole, which carries two or more separate field coils, comprises an inner and an outer section, each of which includes a portion of the pole core. The outer section is detachably secured between the inner section and the machine frame so as to be axially withdrawable therefrom to enable the removal of the separate field coils between the frame and the inner section. In the form shown, each salient pole comprises an inner section 2 of laminated structure and an outer section 3 made of laminations or of solid magnetic material. secured to a magnetic frame 1 by three bolts 8 threaded into metal inserts 7 provided in the inner section 2. The air gap may be adjusted by inserting V-shaped packing plates 10 between the outer section 3 and the frame 1. To prevent vibration, packing members 16 may be inserted between the frame 1 and the windings. The field coils comprise decompounding, starting, separately excited and self excited windings 11, 12, 13, 14 respectively, each of which is wound and finished as an individual unit. The radial depth of the outer section 3 is not less than that of the largest winding to be mounted on the pole, so that this winding can always pass in the space between the inner section 2 and the frame 1. The planes of separation of the inner and outer sections and of two adjacent windings are coincident. Metal plates 10<1> are provided on shoulders formed on the inner section 2 to support the field coils. Before assembling the field coils, compensating windings 6 may be inserted in slots 5.
