628,519. Forging-machines; dies. COMPAGNIE DES FORGES ET ACIERIES DE LA MARINE & D'HOMECOURT. June 25, 1947, No. 16786. Convention date, July 5, 1946. Addition to 622,938. [Class 83 (iv)] Making crank-shaf*ts.-The apparatus of the parent Specification is modified in that the upper central die is provided with a fluid lostmotion coupling to the press head so that in the first part of descent of the head only the lateral dies move. As the press head 13 begins to descend, the ramps engage and move inwardly the end dies 8 and 9 so that the work is upset or bulged between the end dies and the central dies 1 and 12 which during this phase, grip the work but remain stationary, a piston 2 carried by the head entering a cylinder in the upper part of the die. When the press head abuts the upper central die, these dies are moved downwardly, as the end dies are moved further inwardly so that the throw portion of the crank is displaced transversely and the sides of the throw are forged between the sides of the central dies and the inner ends of the end dies as shown in Fig. 5.
