Abstract

1469360 Punching K KANEKO 6 Aug 1975 [6 Aug 1974] 09370/76 Divided out of 1469359 Heading B3W A punching device for removing the connecting ring 44 from a hollow stepped steel cylinder consisting of a pair of axially overlapping outer and inner rings 40, 42 integrally interconnected by the connecting ring, comprises a fixed outer annular die 62 having an annular recess 60 intended to receive the said outer ring; an axially movable inner annular die 64 which is a sliding fit in the outer die and is intended to receive the said inner ring; a ram 92 movable axially towards and away from the dies; an inner punch 70 carried by the ram and insertable into the inner die as a sliding fit to separate the said inner ring from the said connecting ring; and an outer punch 74 contiguously encircling the inner punch and insertable as a sliding fit into the outer die to separate the said connecting ring from the said outer ring. The inner die is reciprocated by a member 112. As the member 112 advances, the action of a cam surface 114 on a ball 86 causes inner rings, which have collected in a bore 108, to be discharged through an opening 110. The connecting ring is stripped from the inner punch by the outer punch, and the outer ring is stripped from the outer punch by a fixed stop 132. The end surface of the member 112 remote from the die is tapered (Fig. 3, not shown) and co-operates with the surface of a transversely movable body; movement of said body wedges the member 112 to prevent motion of the inner die during punching of the inner ring.
