[Classes 142 (i), 142 (ii) and 142 (iii)] Picking motion.-The picking sticks 48 are actuated through cords 50, 51 from pedals 61 carried by a pair of levers 56, 57 so as to have a parallel motion. Shedding mechanism.-Tappets 20 driven by the batten 25 operate the heald shafts through bellcrank levers 15 and cords 3, 4. The rocking movement of the batten is transmitted by a sector 37 and bevel gear 38, Figs. 1 and 3, to a shaft 22 on which the tappets are loosely mounted; a ratchet wheel 33, Fig. 4, on the shaft 22 cooperates with a pawl 34 on the tappets 20 to turn them one step for each oscillation of the batten. Tappets.-The tappets, Fig. 4, comprise discs 23 between which are assembled rollers 27 and segments 31, the latter being placed between two rollers 27 when a heald shaft is to stay up for successive picks. Levelling healds.-The healds can all be brought to the same level by turning an arm 21, Fig. 1, to the position shown in broken line, thereby aligning the bellcrank levers 15. Take-up motion.-The take-up motion is derived from the oscillation of the batten about its pivot 36, Fig. 3, the rate being adjustable by moving a rod 42 to alter the stroke of linkage 44.
