[Class 142(iii)] A picking stick g of a weaving loom is operated by an elbow-lever type traction element e/f which in its initial extended position is parallel with the shuttle race and under the impulsion of a picking arm d driven by a cam-disc a through the medium of a bowl b moves so that the force applied to the picker gradually increases from zero, the attachment point p of the element e/f to the picking stick g moving at increased speed during the pick. The traction element may consist of two rigid members connected by ball joints or alternatively the two members may be connected by a flexible strap engaged by the picking arm d, Figs. 6-8 (not shown). A segmented portion h of the lower end of the picking stick g rolls during picking along three bands i, stretched on a socket k mounted on the rocking shaft of the loom, and secured to the segment k so that the picking stick drops slightly and the picking end follows an approximately horizonal path.
