Abstract

An apparatus is claimed to monitor the laying of the weft yarn in a shuttleless loom with a photo-electric pick seeker mounted to the reed and moving with it, located in the gap between the monitored woven edge and the fabric at the beating up line at the forward edge of the reed to detect a projecting weft yarn end in the gap when the reed is moved forwards in its beating up action. The system does not restrict the operating speed of the loom allowing high speeds to be developed and the weft laying action to be monitored.
