Abstract

703,857. Loom pickers and picking sticks. FIBRE ET MICA. March 13, 1951 [Sept. 19, 1950], No. 6078/51. Class 142(2) Two guide blocks 6, engaging a tapered end on a picking stick 3 and having concave faces engaging faces of the same radius on a picker 7, keep the picker a close fit on the stick regardless of the angular position of the stick. The picker has a bore 7a for a guide rod, a side projection 7b by which the shuttle is struck, and a groove 7c engaging a bar on the loom which assists in guiding the picker. The bottom of the picking stick is bolted to a member 2 on the shaft 1, slots 3a in the stick providing adjustment. The picker may be made of cloth impregnated with synthetic resin and may have a pad of softer material which engages the shuttle. The guide blocks may be oiled raw hide or synthetic resin or cloth impregnated with synthetic resin; or they may be made of a self-lubricating or soft metal.
