Abstract

626,544. Condensers. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. April 18, 1947, No. 10409. Convention date, April 18, 1946. [Class 37] Condensers a are cooled by a medium, e.g. water or air, in forced flow in cooling chambers b, the greatest part of the exterior surface of which is adapted to lie against the walls of the condensers, both chambers b and condensers a being formed as separate containers so that the cooling medium does not contact the condenser walls. The chambers b and condensers a comprise closed hollow discs, alternately stacked between end members d and secured by bolts e. Tubes c serve to supply and evacuate the cooling medium. When liquid is the cooling medium the chambers b, which may be of copper, are divided into two compartments by a metal sheet placed intermediate of, and parallel to, the end walls of the disc, and have a central hole. A metal strip shaped as a spiral is welded to each side of this plate, to form a continuous channel for the cooling medium in the disc b between inlet and outlet. If air is used as the cooling medium, the spiral metal strips are replaced by separate curved strips and the central hole in the metal sheet is dispensed with.
