[Classes 44 and 65 (i)] A device for retaining a hinged window in a partly open position comprises a gravity or spring operated arm 1, Fig. 1, hinged to the window and capable of being swung into an inoperative position to allow the window to be fully opened and carrying hinged at its end a gravity or spring operated stopping member 6 having an aperture 7 to co-operate with a locking pin 4 fixed on the window sash to lock the parts in the operative position. The pin is shorter than the distance between the member 6 and the window so that the parts are unlocked before the the window is fully closed. The member 6 may swing in both directions from the normal position shown. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes other forms in one of which the arm is rigidly mounted on the window frame. In another modification, the stopping member is of triangular shape and bent on a middle vertical line, the two sides being suitable for use with right- or left-hand windows. In another form, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), the hinged arm 1 carries a resilient sloping hook 6 having a projection 11 to engage an aperture in a bracket 13 fixed to the window sash. In a modification, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), a spring arm 1 is rigidly mounted on the frame and has a hook part 6 pressed out for engagement with a member 18 on the window sash. The conical head of the member 18 is adapted to enter an aperture in the arm 1. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
