Abstract

846,584. Window fastenings. CRITTALL MFG. CO. Ltd. July 28, 1958 [Aug. 8, 1957], No. 25099/57. Class 44. A safety fastening device for connection between the fixed and moving frames 1, 2 of a window comprises a pin 9 fixed to one frame 2 and a tracked latch means 5 including a limited path for movement therein of the pin pivotally mounted on the other frame 1 in such a mannei that the latch means normally occupies a position in which the pin is housed in the track therein thereby allowing a predetermined movement of the pin so as to allow a fixed amount of opening of the window and only a further movement of the pin and hence of the window when the latch means is moved about its pivot and held in the moved position by hand. As shown the latch means 5 is carried by a support bracket 3 by means of a pivot pin 4 and it terminates in a nose 7 at its outer end and a detent 8 at its inner end. Pivotal movement of the latch means is limited by a cut away portion 10 which butts against the bracket in the raised position of the latch means. Opening of the window is normally limited by the pin 9 engaging the outer end of the track and in order to open the window it must first be closed so that the latch means can be pivoted upwardly to enable the pin 9 to ride past the nose 7. When the window is closed the pin 9 first raises the latch means 5 to pass the nose 7 and then butts against the detent 8 to positively restore the latch means to its normal position.
