Abstract

A liquid composition comprises a liquid and two distinct rubbers having different solubility characteristics in the same liquid, only one of said rubbers being in solution in the liquid and the other being in the form of discrete particles dispersed in the solution. The rubbers may be pairs chosen according to the above conditions from unvulcanized and vulcanized natural rubber; polymers of butadiene, methylpentadiene, chloroprene, alkyl polysulphides and isobutylene; and copolymers of these substances with styrene, acrylonitrile and isoprene. Preferred solvents are hexane, octane, methyl - ethyl ketone, acetone and toluol, although benzol or chlorinated solvents may be used if toxic effects are not objectionable. Fillers such as wood flour, ground cork, ground hard rubber, flock, metallic oxides and silex may also be added.ALSO:A liquid composition comprises a liquid and two distinct rubbers having different solubility characteristics in the same liquid, only one of said rubbers being in solution in the liquid and the other being in the form of discrete particles dispersed in the solution. The composition is prepared either by milling the two rubbers together and then treating with a solvent in which one only dissolves, or preferably by mechanically mixing the rubbers in the presence of the solvent. Coatings and films are obtained by evaporating the solvent. Fillers such as wood flour, ground cork, ground hard rubber, flock, metallic oxide and silex may also be added.
