Abstract
626,266. Transformers. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Aug. 21, 1947, No. 23165. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1946. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] In order to reduce the di mensions of and inductivi losses in a metallic shield can 22, 23 of a transformer e.g. an intermediate fre quency transformer in a radio receiver, the coil unit 11, 12, comprising coils 18 19, wound on powdered magnetic cores 14 ar mounted in a structure 10 of powdered magnetic material to form a closed magnetic circuit, thereby eliminating stray fields and allowing the shield can to closely surround the structure 10. The cores 14 are provided with longitudinal and diametric slots to house the coils and the coupling is adjusted by rotation of the coil units relative to each other, the units being fixed, after adjustment, by a sealing compound. Alternatively the coils may be housed in circumferential slots in which case the coupling is adjusted by moving the units longitudinally relative to each other. An insulating member may be interposed between the shield can and the structure 10, the can being apertured to permit trimming condensers 25, 26, connected respectively in parallel with the adjacent coil, to be mounted therein and to permit adjustment of the condensers.
