Abstract

A process for treating grain comprises admixing the grain with a viscous aqueous seed dressing preparation, (see Group VI), obtained by incorporating in water a dry pulverulent mixture comprising at least 60 per cent of a gelling clay, 10 to 30 per cent of a water-soluble organic dispersing agent and 0.3 to 5.0 per cent of an organic mercury seed disinfectant and, if desired, gamma benzenhexachloride.ALSO:Dry pulverulent seed dressing preparations comprise at least 60 per cent of a gelling clay, 10 to 30 per cent of a water-soluble organic dispersing agent and 0.3 to 5.0 per cent of an organic mercury seed disinfectant such as phenylmercuri-acetate and di(phenyl-mercuri) ammonium acetate, and, if desired gamma benzene hexachloride. Gelling clays specified are suitable potter's clays, kaolin and bentonites; the dispersing agents specified are water-soluble esters, e.g. the polyglycerol ester of ricinoleic acid, and water soluble salts of alkylnaphthalene sulphonic acids (e.g. isopropylnaphthalenesulphonic acid), of dinaphthylmethanesulphonic acid (e.g. the sodium salt), of ligninsulphonic acids and of the soap-forming fatty acids such as stearic acid. The dry preparations may be incorporated in water to form preparations of viscous consistency for admixing with the seed.
