Alkyl-diguanidines of the formula wherein R is C 8-18 alkyl, m is 2-6, X represents the radical of an inorganic or organic acid and n indicates the valency of the acid may be obtained (a) by reacting 1 mol. proportion of a diamine of the formula R-NH-(CH 2 ) m -NH 2 with two mol. proportions of cyanimide and 2/n mol. proportions of an acid HX, or (b) by reacting two mol. proportions of an s-alkylisothiourea salt of the formula with one mol. proportion of a diamine of the formula R-NH-(CH 2 ) m -NH 2 . The organic or inorganic acids employed, of which X is the anion, may be sulphuric, nitric, hydrochloric, phosphoric, formic, acetic, lauric, stearic or oleic or mixtures thereof. The compounds may be formulated into microbicidal formulations by admixture with a carrier, e.g. an organic solvent or another microbicide.
