Abstract

626,190. Transformers. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 18, 1947, No. 19247. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1945. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVII] In an ignition system (see Group XXVII) there is provided. a high-frequency ignition coil 30, comprising two primary winding sections, each section having four coils in parallel, whilst the secondary winding has two sections connected in series. The coil is divided into two units C, each consisting of four primary coils and a'secondary coil wound in layers upon a core which is fabricated by wrapping 0.002 inch thick Hypersil steel upon a former. The four primary wires are wound together in two layers, with insulation on top of each layer; the secondary coil is also in two layers, wound in position on the outside of the primary, with insulation between each layer, the whole then being wrapped with a further layer of insulation The coil assembly is housed in a box 50 which has two coaxial terminal insulators 55a, 55b, one on either side of the box, the left-hand terminal 54 being connected to the unearthed side of the secondary coils, whilst the earthed side is connected to the box 50 by a lead 57. The right-hand terminal 60 is connected to the unearthed side of the primary windings, whilst the cable 58 earths the other side of these primary windings to the box 50. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the wire gauge and number of turns in each coil. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
