dargestellt.Ignition device for internal combustion engines using gas discharge tubes

can be replaced by gas discharge tubes. This makes it a remarkable one

In Fig. I is a

Drehzahl angetrieben werden wie der Verteiler k.In Fig. I, a and b are two capacitors which are charged via two resistors c and d by a direct current source (not shown). Gas discharge tubes e, f and the primary winding g of an ignition transformer in the common cathode line of the two tubes e and f are connected to the discharge circuits of the capacitors a and b. The discharge of the capacitors a and b can only take place via the tubes 2 and f and via the winding g when the grid of the tubes receives a positive voltage surge. A special control circuit lt with a switch i is used for this purpose, by means of which the control voltage can be applied alternately to the grid of the tube e and to the grid of the tube f in the rhythm of the ignition frequency. In the position of the switch i shown in Fig. I, the capacitor a is discharged through the tube e and the winding g. As a result, a voltage is induced in the secondary winding g ′ of the ignition transformer which, in the position shown of the ignition distributor h, results in an ignition spark at a spark plug L. Since, according to the illustrated embodiment, four spark plugs have to be supplied with ignition sparks during one revolution of the distributor rotor, but switch i can only cause two capacitor discharges with one revolution, switch i must be driven at twice the speed as distributor k.
The curve labeled A in Fig. 2 initially denotes the
the capacitor a certain potential at the anode of the tube. If the tube is ignited,
so the potential at the cathode becomes suddenly according to the curve C shown in dashed lines
lifted so that an ignition spark jumps over at one of the spark plugs 1. If now after
switching off the grid bias the tube e is not deleted, which is at
DC voltage lying in the discharge tube; can occur, so can the capacitor
a, no longer fully charge. A change in this state only occurs when
when the tube is ignited by applying a positive bias to its grid
and thereby the potential of their cathode and thus the common cathode potential
both tubes to the voltage required for spark generation
(Curve B in Fig. 2) is lifted. Since this tension is higher than that on that
Capacitor a with tube e not extinguished, no can now pass through the tube
Current flow more. As shown in Fig. 3, the one labeled L ° goes
Voltage curve and the current curve of the tube labeled .l,? through zero that
Tube e is therefore definitely extinguished when the tube / is ignited. Then you can
also fully recharge the capacitor a for the next ignition. the
Ignition device described also works without misfires when one of the
two tubes e and f does not go out by itself.
