Abstract

624,788. Batteries. BURGESS BATTERY CO. Jan. 28, 1947, No. 2673. Convention date, April 3, 1946. [Class 53] [Also in Group XVII] A dry battery casing is made from flexible insulating material by folding a sheet into U- shape, standing the battery in the trough so formed and pinching and sticking together the projecting edges of the material. Fig. 3 shows a method of making a number of cases from a continuous length of material 35. The material is folded to form a trough in which a cell is placed, the projecting ends of the trough being then pressed together by movable members 41, 42. The sheet 35 may be made of rubber hydrochloride composition or other material that is softened by heat and the members 41, 42 may be heated to cause the pinched portions 40 to adhere. The cells may be placed in the folded sheet 35 before the pinching operation, as shown in Fig. 3, or a series of empty pockets made by the process and subsequently filled with the cells. The completed series of containers with the cells may then be folded in zig-zag as shown in Fig. 4 to bring the cells parallel to one another. The cells and battery may be of the kind described in Specifications 624,786 and 624,787.
