Abstract

788,012. Dielectric heating. BRITISH XYLONITE CO., Ltd. July 3, 1956 [July 4, 1955], No. 19257/55. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XVII] To close the end of a tube 4 of flexible thermoplastic material with a rigid base element 1, the element 1 is introduced into one end of the tube 4 at an angle to the length of the latter and the other end of the tube 4 is then drawn over and along a mandrel 5 so that an end face of the latter abuts said element and cants it into a position expanding the tube and forming a rib. The mandrel 5 is then used as an internal electrode co-operating with external electrodes 9 for highfrequency welding of the tube 4 to the base 1 as at 8. The tube 4 and the base 1 are preferably of the same material and may be of polythene or polyvinyl chloride, the base element 1 being formed with a thickened marginal edge and thickened cross webs.
