Abstract

764,795. Umbrellas. JONES & CO. (UMBRELLAS), Ltd., W., and ALEXANDER, H. March 7, 1955, No. 6610/55. Class 134. The pivotal joint between the rib 1 and stretcher 4 is covered by a tube 5 of plastic material formed from a rectangular sheet the edges of which are seamed along two portions, leaving a central aperture 10 for the stretcher 4. Preferably the plastic material is polyvinyl chloride and the seaming is effected by radio-frequency electronic heating, although other methods such as heat-sealing, the use of adhesives or solvents for the plastic material, or crimping may be employed.
