[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] A coupler for coupling together two shafts of adjacent endless conveyers comprises a casing 10 in which two sprockets 11, 12 or the like, adapted to be connected to two shafts 19, are carried in ball and socket mountings to permit of slight self-adjustment of the spindles. As shown, the casing 10 has flanged members 16 each housing a socket element 15 with slight clearance such as to allow variation in the pitch of the shafts 19, and in which is fitted a ball element 14. The ball elements 14 have square or other non-circular bores 18 to engage correspondingly shaped shaft ends. In a modification, the ball elements 14 have square or other non-circular spindles to engage complementary recesses in the driving and driven members. Furthermore, drive between the two ball elements may be by gear, belt or friction means. The device may be used in conjunction with belt conveyers as described in Specification 611,199.
