Abstract

623,257. Mechanical presses. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and SALTER, F. S. April 22, 1947, No. 10732. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII, XXVI and XXIX] In a method of securing a column 11 to one of the crossheads 10 of a press in which the columns and crossheads form together an open rectangular frame, groups of wedges 15 are inserted in a radial clearance space formed around the column at the end of the crosshead bore in which the column is received, after the crosshead has been laterally adjusted with respect to another crosshead and after the column has been secured to the crosshead by means of nuts 12, 13 the wedges being tapered in a direction parallel to the axis of the column and individually adjustable as regards their axial position relative to the column. In the embodiment described, each wedge 15 is adjustable by means of a screw jack 16 which abuts against the wedge and a fixed collar 17.
