Abstract

722,500. Felt. AMERICAN FELT CO. Nov. 17, 1952, No. 18358/53. Divided out of 722,490. Class 42 (2). A felt hardening machine comprises a plurality of upper rollers 20 mounted in fixed bearings permitting rotation and axial movement of the upper rollers, a plurality of lower rollers 21 mounted in bearings 30 which permit no axial movement of rollers 21, yokes 32 supporting bearings 30 and vertically slidable in guides 40, and a piston 34 connected to each yoke 32 and subjected to pneumatic or hydraulic pressure in a cylinder 35 to urge the lower rollers towards the upper and control the pressure exerted on material F passing between the rollers. By connecting the pressure chambers 42 of all the cylinders 35 to the same source of pressure, equal pressure in all the cylinders is ensured; where the rollers are arranged in two or more units, different pressures may be applied to rollers of different units. Adjacent rollers 21 are connected and driven by chains 36. The machine particularly described is the same as that described in Specifications 722,490 and 722,499.
