Abstract
623,050. Fluid-pressure gauging apparatus. RUPLEY, F. L. Oct. 3, 1946, No. 29534. [Class 106 (ii)] In fluid-pressure gauging apparatus the gauge head includes a body with a longitudinal passage therein communicating with a gauge port associated with a feeler member mounted on the outside of the body and movable relatively to the port, this feeler being secured to the gauge head by a leaf-spring continuously tending to keep the feeler spaced from the body. The gauge head shown in Fig. 5 comprises a block 54a joined by a conduit 56a to a second block (not shown) by a fluid-tight joint, a bore 64a in the block 54a being screw-threaded to receive an adjustable member 96 having a gauge port 66a therein. A work-feeler button 68a having a flat face disposed opposite the port 66a is peripherally grooved at 78a to receive the forked ends of a flat spring 82a which is secured to the gauge head by a screw 90a passing through an elongated slot in the spring. The spring is shaped at 94a to allow the flat face of the feeler to remain parallel to the face of the member 96 during gauging movements. The forked ends of the spring are recessed to allow them to be sprung apart to receive the button 68a. The port is adjustable relatively to the button, and the elongated slot in the spring allows adjustment of the button relatively to the port, so that the gauge head can be used for different ranges of gauging. In a modification, the port is not adjustable. The feeler button is protected by a number of projections 74a, defining cross-channels, on the end of the block 54a. In the form shown in Fig. 7, particularly for gauging holes or distances between spaced surfaces, there are two oppositely-disposed gauge ports 110, 118, arranged in a single or separate member 112 with passages 113 communicating with the bore 102 in the block 100, each port having a workfeeler button co-operating therewith. Peripheral and longitudinal grooves in the block allow the escape of fluid when the gauge head is used in a bore. A protective cover-plate 126 is secured to the end of the block 100, and the latter is bevelled at 128 to facilitate entry into a bore. In a modification, only one port is arranged at the side of the gauge head, and the latter has a flat face disposed diametrically opposite the port. This gauge head could be clamped on a column for use as a height gauge. In this modified form a screw-threaded plate may be secured to the flat face to receive a post or fixed feeler so that the scope of the gauging- head can be varied.
