Abstract
621,707. Drying thread. PLEXON, Inc. Nov. 20, 1946, No. 34450. Convention date, March 7, 1944. [Class 34(i)] Coated thread, cord or wire T is dried in vertical chambers 10 by streams of heated air passing through perforations 16 in a direction transverse to the movement of the thread, the air being withdrawn through perforations 23 in the side walls 20 of exhaust compartments 21, without imparting movement to the air in a direction parallel to the thread. Fresh air and room air, in the required proportions, are drawn in by a fan 11 through openings 34 and 40 respectively to a heater H, and supplied to a block of chambers 10 through ducts 18. The air is exhausted from the compartments 21, through ducts 24 and 25, by a fan 12, a portion being exhausted through duct 47 and the remainder re-circulated. The fans may be driven independently. Each chamber 10 has a driving pulley 60 and idler pulleys 75 around which the thread travels from a supply spool 80 and dyeing vat 81. The thread passes, on each downward journey through the chamber, through a coating compound 71 and wiping nozzle N, being finally wound on a spool 65.
