Bleaching, processes and materials for; gases, treating with.-After preliminary treatment with a weak acid, fibres are bleached by the action of a mixture of ozonized air and water vapour. The air, drawn in by a fan 2 and dried in a tower 3, is ozonized in an apparatus 1 and is passed through a meter 101 and a coke washer 5, having a water spray supplied from a valved conduit, to a bleaching tunnel 7, Fig. 1. A certain amount of water vapour is thereby drawn through. Skeins 73 of fibres to be bleached are carried on rails 12 on trucks 22 propelled mechanically or by gravity through the tunnel. The rails may be rotated to present all the area of the fibres to the ozone. The ends of the trucks are provided with flaps (not shown), engaging the interior of the tunnel, and with staggered holes 20 to ensure circulation of the ozone. End chambers 70, 71 may be provided to permit continuous operation, or alternatively two adjacent tunnels may be employed having a common ozone supply passage, the ozone being admitted to each tunnel alternately.
