Abstract

6724. Fussgõnger, V. March 30, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Dyeing.-Fabrics are steamed iu apparatus in which the steam is introduced through perforated pipes e and travels in the opposite direction to the material b, which is drawn from expanders v and passes through air-excluding squeezing-rollers n into and out of the steam-chest. This is provided with partitions c and rollers a. The steam leaves through a valve and the squeezing-rollers may be packed to make the chamber air-tight. There are a wooden insulation q and steam-jackets p<1>, p<2> for preventing the formation of drops, and steamheated plates r<1>, r<2> for protecting the material from drops of water. The squeezing-rollers n can be heated to avoid condensation of steam and dry the material. A modification is described, in which the entrance and exit for the fabric are at the same side of the apparatus. An atmosphere of steam free from air is produced in a short time as required in effecting hydrosulphite discharge and printing with indigo, sulphurized dye-stuffs, &c. By reversing the action of the machine, or by applying two steam induction and eduction pipes, the process may be carried out with a direct current, as required in the case of easily decomposing printing and discharging colours requiring always fresh steam.
