Abstract

337,305. Hoffmann, O. Feb. 9, 1929, [Convention date]. Bleaching, processes and materials for.-Linen &c. previously uniformly and not too heavily moistened is kept in constant and uniform movement in a treating space during the whole of a treatment with ozone at low concentration which does not exceed 2 grammes per cubic metre of air and is preferably from a tenth to a fifth of that concentration. Air, ozonized by a silent electrical discharge, is moistened before being introduced ir.to a treating chamber g by several nozzles disposed in one side wall thereof, corresponding nozzles on the opposite side wall withdrawing the used air, after it has passed transversely across the fabric to be treated, to a drier ready for further ozonizing. Fabric from a receptacle 5 passes through a water seal 3 to squeezing rollers 4 within the chamber g and thence over upper rollers 1 and beneath lower rollers 2 in a zigzag path to a second water seal 3<1> and squeezing rollers 4<1> disposed outside the chamber. Most of the rollers 1 are freely rotatable, but some may be geared together to rotate in unison to assist in feeding the fabric through the chamber.
