Abstract

579,916. Hank - drying machines. HUNT & MOSCROP, Ltd., and SHARPE, J. Sept. 28, 1944, No. 18554. [Class 34 (ii)] In a continuous hank-drying machine in which the hanks of yarn B are supported and traversed through the machine by rotating or stationary horizontal poles A carried between a pair of endless chains C, heated drying air from fans G<1> is directed on to the hanks by means of apertures or nozzles f<1> which are themselves traversed through the machine above the said poles and at the same speed as the latter. In the construction shown the apertures or nozzles f<1> are constituted by the adjacent sides of triangular shaped members F, which are mounted between a pair of endless chains E and have the same spacing as the poles A, and one or more fans G<1> are fitted in each of a number of chambers G arranged along the full length of the machine. The fans withdraw air from ducts a, which are disposed in the walls of the apparatus and communicate with the drying chamber proper by means of an apertured plate a<1> at the bottom thereof, and recirculate it through the drying chamber, steam heated &c. tubes H being located between the fans and the nozzles f<1>. The poles A are oval in shape and preferably hollow and perforated, rotation thereof being effected by the engagement of associated spur wheels c<1> with a fixed rack D in such a manner that the hanks make one complete turn in their passage past each successive chamber G.
