Abstract

618,108. Glass manufacture. FIBREGLASS, Ltd., DANI, A. DE, and. TERRELL, R. G. Oct. 21, 1946, No. 31186. [Class 56] Apparatus wherein a stream or streams of molten thermoplastic material are attenuated into fibres by high velocity jets of steam &c. issuing from blower halves positioned to form a slot through which the stream or streams pass has means whereby the width of the slot entrance may be varied independently of the distance between the blower halves or of the width of the slot exit; the drawing effect of the air stream induced into the slot entrance may thus be controlled without causing fouling of the slot exit by the fibres. The means shown comprises flat plates 8, 9 overlying the entrance of the slot 5 between the blowers 1, 2 and adjustable by screws 10, 11 rotatable in the frame members 6, 7. Where the bushing 12 contains a number of orifices 13, a separate pair of plates may be provided for each orifice.
