[Class 69 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVIII, XXXVII and XXXVIII] A liquid storage and dispensing system comprises a number of tanks 1, each having a sump 4 extending below the bottom of the tank and containing a pump 8 and a metering and controlling means 7. The controlling means 7 consists of a float 16 moving within a tube 12 having helical slots 20. As the float rises or falls, pins 19 engaging the slots 20 cause it to rotate turning with it a guide rod 15 which moves a contact arm 21 over a rheostat 22. Thus, depending upon the level of the. liquid in the tank, a varying resistance is connected in series with a meter 23. Each pump is controlled by a relay, such as 26, which is opened when the float, on entering the sump, causes the arm 21 to move on to an insulated portion 24, so breaking the circuit through the solenoid. The pump of the next full tank is brought into action as the spring-urged armature of the relay engages the contact 28. The pump may be external of the tank with its intake in the sump.
