Abstract
In a method of case hardening ferrous articles to give a directly useful case, the articles are heated between 850 and 950 DEG C. in an atmosphere consisting of a carburizing and a nitriding gas, the nitriding gas being 2 1/2 to 5 per cent of the total volume. The carburizing gas may be raw or prepared towns gas and the nitriding gas cracked ammonia. Specification 588,547, [Group III], is referred to.
