640,289. Cementation. GAZ DE FRANCE EX-SOC. D'ECLAIRAGE CHAUFFAGE ET FORCE MOTRICE. Oct..6, 1947, No. 26861. Convention date, July 29. [Class 72] In the cementation of steel, town's gas without any addition is preliminarily heated to 900‹ to 1000‹C, dehydrated and then passed in to a cementation furnace at 900‹ to 1000‹C. As shown, town's gas is passed through a series of control valves 6. 7, and 8 into tubes 3, 4, and 5 in an electrically heated furnace, then into a dehydrating chamber 10, containing for example, silica gel, and finally to a cementation furnace 12. The tubes 3, 4, and 5 may be empty or contain wood charcoal or iron filings and the gas finally issuing from the dehydrating chamber is stated to be free from unsaturated hydrocarbons and sulphur, low in CO, and high in CH 4 and to be suitable for case hardening nickel steels. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes also the removal of CO 2 from town's gas before dehydrating and the use of dehydrated town's gas without preliminary heating. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
