Abstract

621,091. Screwing. WINN & CO., Ltd., C., MOUSLEY, N. K., and McMANUS, N. Jan. 17, 1947, No. 1558. [Class 83 (iii)] In a screwing-machine of the type in which the work is held in jaws in a saddle c movable on the bed of the machine relatively to the dies, the work is urged into engagement with the dies by a spring e which has been stressed initially to a predetermined loading. The saddle c supports a sliding plunger b of square cross-section, and the spring e is interposed between the saddle and a head f secured to one end of the plunger by a screw g. The other end of the plunger is turned down to receive a washer h secured by nuts j. The spring is compressed against a stop adjustable on a graduated scale on the bed of the machine, and is held in the compressed position by a spring- loaded pin (not shown) which engages a recess in the plunger. This pin is provided with a cam head, rotation of which lifts the pin axially against spring pressure to liberate the plunger b and urge the work into engagement with the dies. ,
