[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 13, 1946.] [Class 146 (iii)] In a fountain pen having a barrel comprising a reservoir section 11 and a feed section 10, a feed-bar 16 having ink ducts 23 and supported in the section 10 is spaced. for a portion of its length from the inner surface of the section 10 to provide an annular excessink storage space 25 of capillary dimensions into which the ducts 23 freely open. As shown, the inner end of the feed-bar is frusto-conical in shape to fit a correspondingly-shaped seating 15 in the section 10. At the nib end 20 of the seating, the bar is reduced and tapers to a shoulder 21 from which extends the nib-carrying part 27. An airtube 17 communicates with the space 25 by bores 18, 19. Air admission normally takes place through the tip 26 of the section 10 and below the part 27 of the bar, to the space 25, bores 18, 19 and tube 17, but if the space 25 is filled with ink, no air can enter and no ink-feed take place until the excess ink in the space is used. In a modification, the parts 10, 11 are integral and the tube 17, and bores 18, 19 omitted, air being admitted to the reservoir through a space above the ducts and situated in the frusto-conical part of the bar 11. Nibs.-The nib supports the feed-bar extension 27 in the tip 26 and, as shown, is cylindrical with bentin lugs 30, 31 engaging beneath the part 27. In a modified form, the downward extensions 28, 29 Fig. 2 are omitted, and the lugs extend to a point adjacent to the end of the section 10, and below the horizontal diameter of the bore.
