Abstract

In the manufacture of viscose rayon by a process wherein the freshly coagulated thread passes from a driven draw-off godet through a hot liquid bath to a second godet driven at a higher speed, the thread is guided through the bath by a freely rotating wheel which is only partly submerged in the bath. As shown, the apparatus comprises a spinneret 11 placed in a coagulating bath 12, a draw-off godet 14, a freely rotating wheel 18 of large diameter partly submerged in a trough of hot liquid 20, and a second godet 22, driven at a greater speed than that of the draw-off godet. The thread 16 passes several times round the draw-off godet and then round the guide-wheel and through the hot liquid bath, on to the second godet. The shaft of the wheel is preferably mounted on the wall of the second bath so that it is inclined upwards. The wheel may be <PICT:0620285/IV (a)/1> doubly or singly flanged. Means for mounting the shaft in the second bath are described (Fig. 2, not shown). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that notches may be provided on the wheel to facilitate "spinning in." This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
