Abstract
Apparatus for making filaments; passing liquids through materials.-Cakes of thread particularly of artificial silk made from viscose are removed from the centrifugal spinning boxes and supported on <PICT:0341317/IV/1> <PICT:0341317/IV/2> <PICT:0341317/IV/3> three or more rods which pass through the cakes and are pressed away from each other so as to bear on the inner surface of the cakes during the treatment with washing, desulphurizing, bleaching, soaping, or other liquid. The rods are placed horizontally and the treating liquid is allowed to drip on to the outside of the cakes. Several cakes may be supported on one set of rods which may be passed through a skein washing machine such p as is described in Specification 9067/13, [Class 15 (i), Dyeing &c., Apparatus for]. In the drawings, a number of cakes 1 are supported on rods 2, 3, 4, 5. The rods 3, 4, 5, are attached at one end by ball-joints 8 to a carrier 6 mounted on the rod 2 and are made to bear upon the cakes by means of a distance piece 7. An elastic ring 7a surrounding the free ends of the rods 2, 3, 4, 5 causes the rods 3, 4, 5 to move radially inward upon the removal of the distance piece 7 when it is required to place the cakes 1 on or remove them from the rods. In a modification, the cakes are placed over four rods attached at one end by ball-joints to a carrier which is mounted for rotation on a central shaft upon which the distance piece 7 is adapted to slide into and out of operative position.
