Abstract
A high frequency electric field is applied to a stream of milk or other bacteria-affected liquid to heat it to a temperature above 175 DEG F. and the liquid is then cooled to 135 DEG F. or less while flowing from the field, the heating and subsequent cooling being effected within a period not exceeding 1 sec. Raw milk supplied by a pipe 35 flows over a hot water coil 3 into an electric field applicator 9, which may be as described in Specification 598,486, of energy frequency more than 20, e.g. 30, megacycles/sec., and thence for cooling into a chamber 27 which is continuously evacuated through a pipe 29. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also heating the liquid by any means and cooling to any extent, the <PICT:0619495/III/1> process not being limited to the treatment of a stream. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
