Abstract

619,405. Locking levers and rods. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 6, 1946, No. 36219. Convention date, Jan. 8. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] Relates to mechanism in which a brake is normally applied to prevent rotation of a driven member and is released by the initial movement of a driving member and comprises brake shoes applied by springs to the interior of a drum. Plates which carry the brake shoes overlap and are formed with one pair of slots engaged by pins on the driven member to drive the latter and with another pair of slots engaged by pins on the driving member to withdraw the shoes from the drum and to rotate the shoes. As shown, the shaft 11 of an electric motor has a collar 23 carrying pins 24, 25 which enter slots 16, 17 in a pair of overlapping plates 14, 15, each carrying a brake shoe 20, 21 normally applied to a fixed drum 13 by springs 19, each attached to the two plates. The driven member is a pinion 28 fixed to a plate 26 freely mounted on the end of the shaft 11 and carrying pins 31, 32 which enter slots 29, 30 in the plates 14, 15. With the parts at rest and the shoes applied, the edges of the slots 16, 17 are out of register so that when the shaft is rotated the shoes are first withdrawn from the drum by the action of the pins 24, 25 on the edges of these slots and are then rotated and transmit the drive through the pins 31, 32 to the plate 26 and the pinion 28.
