Abstract
593,319. Claw clutches; securing members on shafts. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. June 13, 1945, No. 15031. Convention date, May 10, 1944. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] In a clutch of the kind having pins moved axially by resilient means for engagement, the pins are disengaged manually through an axially disposed flexible connection and are held in the disengaged position by spring - biassed latching levers manually operable to release the pins for engagement. As shown applied to a servomotor drive for an aircraft control surface, a fourarmed spider 36, Fig. 4, has two arms 39, 40 carrying pins 41 engaging holes 44, 46, Fig. 6, in the driving and driven members 10, 19 of the clutch. The spider is biassed towards engagement by a spring 57, Fig. 5, and is disengaged by pulling on a flexible tension member 56 passing through the end cover of a casing 14 attached to the member 10. When disengaged, the spider is retained by its remaining arms 37, 38 which co-act with steps on inwardly spring- biased pivoted axial hinges 23, mounted on the driving member, whose outer ends project through slots in the end cover for manual tripping. The driving member 10 is splined on the servomotor shaft (not shown), being located thereon by a splined locking plate 15 unsymmetrically bedded down by a screw 16 with or without a spacing bolt 17. The member 19 carries a pulley 20 on which the control surface operating cable is wound.
