Abstract

618,664. Oil-break switches. LONG & CRAWFORD, Ltd., LONG, E., and TAYLOR, E. Nov. 11, 1946, No. 33417. [Class 38 (v)] A fuse unit enclosing a fuse wire k is mounted on a contact unit of an oil-immersed switch so that one end a makes cone-and-socket connection at e, f with a member b, conductively connected at q to the butt contact i. When the fuse unit is inserted, pins c thereon engage slots d in the fuse holder and a spring g is partially compressed. This spring is fully compressed when the contact i is engaged, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that neither vibrations nor an explosion produced by fuse rupture can effect release of the part a. When the fuse k is ruptured, one end m thereof is expelled by the gases produced and moves away rapidly with a retractable part n, as described in Specification 618,663.
