[Class 129] [Also in Group II] A machine for separating stalks from tea leaves comprises at least one pair of soft rubber or like rollers arranged with their axes in the same horizontal plane, a supply hopper mounted above the rollers, and an oscillatory perforated screen situated in an inclined position below the rollers. after passing though a pair of rollers 1, the leaves pass through a perforated screen 6 and are discharged down a chute 7 ; the remaining material, consisting mainly of detached stalks, slides down the screen and, to complete the separation, is preferably passed through a second pair of rollers 15, a further screen 17 and chute 18 being provided. The periphery of each roller is of soft rubber or the like, and one of each pair is adjustably pressed towards the other by springs 23. A frame 8, carrying the screens and chutes, is suspended from the main frame by links 9 and reciprocated by a pair of cranks or eccentrics 13.
