Abstract

Sorting on inclined endless bands -Apparatus for separating the pips or kernels of locust beans, palm nuts, &c. from the meal or shell comprises an inclined endless moving band of fabric 25, Fig. 3, with upstanding wires 26 on which the kernels slide to the lower ends while the other parts are carried upwards and discharged separately. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a multiple arrangement is provided comprising two bands 8, 9 mounted in frames 16, 17 pivoted at one end about the shafts 2, 5 carrying the band pulleys and adjustably supported at the other end by supports 18, 19. The lower band pulleys 10, 11 are carried by bearings sliding in the frames to provide adjustment of the tension of the band. Inclined baffle plates 36 may be provided to discharge the shell or meal that tends to travel downwards through the side shoot 37. Preferably, a rotary sieve is interposed between the bands to subject the material to a sifting operation before, passing to the lower band. The mixed material is fed from a hopper 27 having a gate 32 adjustable by the screw 34 and hand wheel 33 and a feed tray 28 hung by pivoted rods 29 and reciprocated by crank mechanism.
