Abstract

618,384. Thermionic distributers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., LEVY, M. M., and SHARPE, J. Oct. 31, 1946, No. 32352. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A cathode-ray distributer has a plurality of anodes 11 and 11<1> arranged alternately in an inner and an outer concentric ring, so that adjacent anode ends overlap. Coils 13 and 13<1> are adjusted to sweep the electron beam round a conical path passing between frustoconical electrodes 14 and 15. The beam sweeps round the annular band of electrodes and is switched from an outer to an inner anode, or vice versa, each time an overlap is reached, by an oscillating voltage between electrodes 14 and 15. If this is of rectangular waveform, the beam will trace the dotted line in Fig. 2 (not shown). The beam may be suppressed during the switching period. More than two rings of anodes may be used, and the annular band may instead, extend in a straight line. To reduce secondary emission, a negatively charged wire hoop may be interposed between inner and outer rings, or the anodes may be bucket-shaped.
