Abstract

618,281. Eye protectors. ASEA ELECTRIC, Ltd., and FITCH, S. Sept. 27, 1946, No. 28985. [Class 97 (i)] A screen for welders &c. comprises a body harness, consisting of a waist belt and shoulder straps adjustably attached to the front and rear of the belt; vertically adjustable on the front run of each strap is a slide member to which a pivotally mounted shield is detachably connected. As shown, the shield 1 which may be opaque or transparent is provided when opaque with a central opening, adjacent which a frame 21 is carried in which a plate comprising upper and lower coloured glass panels of different opacities is slidable; a glare shield 24, as described in Specification 558,577, may be provided. A rod 14, Fig. 2, is carried in bearings 15 on the shield and has connected thereto arms 13, each of which carries a spigot 12, which engage sockets in sliders 9 on the shoulder straps 4 of the harness when the shield in is use. The rod 14 allows of pivotal movement of the shield 1 (locking means being provided on the shield to hold it in adjusted position), while the sliders 9 permit vertical movement of the shield, these sliders being connected with pads 11 to prevent damage to the wearer's clothes. The shoulder straps are crossed at the back of the wearer and are connected to a belt 3, buckles being provided to allow for lengthening of the shoulder straps. Rotation of the shield about the rod 14 may be effected by the rotation of a screw which passes through the shield and engages a short crank lever projecting radially from the rod 14.
